« The Quebecers » mural – QUEBEC

When visiting Lyon, the CEO of the national capital of Quebec was struck by the urban and human similarity of the two cities, giving him the idea of a monumental mural design in the image of the murals of Lyon. What he had in mind was the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city of Quebec.

Three million visitors a year

When I discovered the circuit of painted murals in Lyon, I was very impressed by the fact that these frescos, apart from their beauty, were wonderful cultural tools for social reconnection in themselves. I also encouraged the transfer of knowhow to Québec, along with training.

Action / result

Designed and produced in 1999 by CitéCréation, this trompe-l’œil of 450 m², in a painting representing items of the architecture of Old Quebec and emphasised by the intensity of the seasons, renders homage to the famous people who have marked the city’s history, including Jacques Cartier, Samuel de Champlain, the Count of Frontenac, Alphonse Desjardins, Thaïs Lacoste-Frémont, etc. along with Félix Leclerc and young ice hockey players.
The presence of this monumental mural design has had a radical impact on the image of Québec by restoring life and interest to an old and dingy wall and it participates in spreading the word about this old part of Quebec.
According to the Quebec Tourist Office, 3 million visitors a year come to admire and be photographed in front of this gigantic monumental mural design, a work that adds to the city’s identity and now one of its symbols.
