“The 7 great wines of Chablis” – Monumental wall design – CHABLIS

Within the framework of the thermal and technical rehabilitation of its heritage, Domanys (a departmental housing organisation in the Yonne) wishes to bring a change of image to its buildings in the Pasteur-Picards residence in Chablis. Domanys mandates CitéCréation to embellish its heritage and to set up a participative and dynamic approach with its tenants and local residents. CitéCréation provides a high quality artistic and technical response that corresponds to the identity of the Chablis area.

The narrative concept “a heritage facing its hill”: Listening to the story of the inhabitants who have lived in the residence and their town for 5, 10, 20 or even 30 years, paying tribute to the singularity of the town of Chablis, to its natural environment, bringing in details like so many winks that deliver a unique story… Based on the anecdotes and stories told by those who live in this territory, CitéCréation sets out to provide the best aesthetic response by endowing this heritage with all the assets of the singular history of Chablis and in particular of its economy: that of wine, symbolised by the seven great wines of Chablis.

Problem

Built in the 1960s, the Pasteur-Picards residence offers a uniform and standardised image on a central axis at the entrance to the town, away from the tourist circuit which is very busy with tourists from all over the world.

Composed of two buildings, with two gable facades, and seven entrances facing the mythical hill of the seven great wines of Chablis, the town and DOMANYS are undertaking a rehabilitation that is both technical and aesthetic.

Action / result

CitéCréation chose to work on the entire facades of the two buildings to provide the best response in terms of monumental mural design.

The artistic creations are based on the chromatic range of the colours of Chablis. The overall composition proposes to make the buildings “vibrate” in order to lighten their relatively imposing volumes, while signifying the presence of the seven entrances, intended for the inhabitants. Two gable facades more particularly specify an aesthetic intention of the “mural fresco” type. The colouring of the facades on the intimate part of the residence takes up the colour chart of the Chablis wines.
