“The cartoon strip city” fresco circuit ANGOULEME

Context

The city of Angoulême has hosted the largest cartoon strip festival in the world for over 30 years. This festibal attracts some 300,000 visitors annually.

The point of departure

How could a cultural event like the strip cartoon festival be made to last throughout the year and strengthen the pride of the city’s inhabitants and their feeling that the event belongs to them.

Action / result

With more than thirty painted walls, the city of Angoulême has endowed itself with an acknowledged and original tourist circuit that extends the impact of the festival beyond its dates. Whether they live in the city centre or in the outskirts, the inhabitants of Angoulême are proud of the cartoon frescos and have appropriated them as part of their identity.

Cost of the monumental mural design project:

  • Project coordination/ Design / Production of the entire project comprising 30 mural paintings.
  • Circuit with a total value of €1,430 K ex. tax*.

  • 30 facades ranging from 10m² to 400m².
  • Timetable for carrying out the project: since 2005

Technical characteristics of the painted facades:

  • Coated concrete walls, ETI polystyrene, Bordeaux stone.

*Excluding scaffolding, surface preparation, team facilities, site office with access to water and living expenses
