The point of departure
Built at the beginning of the 1970s, the social housing of Noirettes is composed of very wide mid-rise buildings of 8 to 10 floors. These massive buildings suffer from a major limitation: monolithic facades whose entrances are not easily discernible.
Action / result
The residents were able to regain possession of their habitat in the framework of in-depth consultation on the joint creation of a stylised graphic creation. Their involvement in their neighbourhood became more dynamic. Its image, fuelled by the pride of its inhabitants, appeared transformed in the eyes of visitors.
Satisfaction among the tenants increased by 20% to reach 80% and tenant turnover fell by a factor of 8.
This major participatory adventure over a period of 2 years was punctuated by several significant events with the tenants: visits to murals in Lyon and Chartres, the joint creation of mock-ups with CitéCréation, their presentation, and the inauguration. The negative image of the Noirettes district has completely disappeared, replaced by the pride of the local population and positive opinions, marked with colours, energy and humanity. The Noirettes murals are now part of the much visited circuit of Lyon’s mural paintings.
Thanks to the fantastic mobilisation of more than 200 tenants who spontaneously joined this project and then became proud ambassadors, these mural works are the proof of formidable collective energy.
