Mural “Scenes from Vienna” celebrates the Jazz Festivals in France

CitéCréation celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2018. The cooperative enterprise has designed and created more than 750 murals in the hearts of cities, in businesses or in social housing districts.

We open the photo album to present you each week a mural, a monumental wall design or a fresco for social housing.

In this summer of Jazz Festivals, all over France and especially in Vienna, we present you the “Scènes de Vienne” mural fresco, created by CitéCréation in 1995 which pays homage to the great jazz musicians…

To represent ancient Vienna, the background is inspired by the painting by Étienne Rey, on display in the museum. Restoration work
of the wall of the municipal theatre have brought to light a 14th century window of the former Palace of the Canals: today it is integrated into the fresco.

And then Molière, Berlioz, Jean Dasté, Pierre Schneyder, Miles Davis, Dee Dee Bridgewater (who played Carmen), Laurent Mourguet are there and cross the centuries in a scenery, highlighted by the spotlights. This shows how important the wink to the role of the theatre in the city is.

The work deserves our attention. To discover these trompe-l’oeil details that bring the wall to life. Right before our eyes.

The illusion is perfect.
