The Gargantua mural, a legend of the town of Pierrelatte

Gargantua, a well-known character in French literature entered the cultural Pantheon thanks to his creator, Rabelais.
Although the link with the town of Pierrelatte is imaginary, it remains forever present in the collective conscience of the town’s residents. Despite his renown, very few images exist of this truculent, humorous and endearing character.
The idea of creating a monumental work on the town’s water tower to display this giant known by all was a spectacular way of implementing Pierrelatte council’ policy of embellishing the town’s image. This comprises displaying its advantages, embellishing the town, enthusing new life into the shopping area and creating new conditions for economic and cultural development.
