CitéCréation celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2018. The cooperative enterprise has designed and created more than 750 murals in the hearts of cities, in businesses or in social housing districts.

We open the photo album to present you each week a mural, a monumental wall design or a fresco for social housing.

In these times of summer holidays, between the north and the south, millions of European motorists discover tanks and walls which tell a story… that of this Total Refinery which is located at the main entrances of the Metropolis of Lyon…

Its breadth and monumentality are a real creative feat. To achieve the work visible today, CitéCréation has chosen consultation and innovation. The method used is to compare the views of residents, motorists and Total employees. The objective of this intervention was threefold: to enable the refinery to acquire a new, more rewarding image, to ensure that residents appropriate this industrial environment in its positive dimension and to innovate in the way of rediscovering an industrial landscape thanks to the monumental wall design.

A concept has emerged to create this alchemy: to represent the role of the refinery in the economic development of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

The richness of the project lies in the meetings that are held. From these exchanges was born a new, original and innovative work which tries to reinvent the existing links between a refinery and its territory…

Beyond the symbolic and artistic dimension, this project constitutes an exceptional human adventure. Nothing could have seen the light of day without the mobilization and competence of elected representatives, industrialists, muralist painters, technicians, and of course the inhabitants…
